When Miss Forrest appeared last year at a Greenwich Village club, The Times's John Wilson wrote: “She is still showing that same adaptability with a voice that, today, has more range and power and color than even the best of her earlier efforts might suggest.” The series goes on to include Anita O'Day, Maxine Sullivan, Helen Humes and, for two special evenings, Butterfly McQueen in a new cabaret act. I don’t know if I ever registered that Gene Kelly was in the film while I was watching the beginning credits but I know I recognized his handsome face when I saw it because as I said I was familiar with Kelly even if I hadn’t seen any of his films. I saw Judy Garland’s name in the credits and I was excited, I may have hated The Wizard of Oz as a child but I still loved Judy. It looked old but I’d seen a few classic films and liked them so I wasn’t at all put off by the film’s age. I had tuned in just in time for the beginning of a film called “For Me and My Gal”.

My sister’s portable TV looked exactly like this one except it was nice shade of green 😉
